Anna's Silent Struggle

1 x 56' HD

Handicapped Jews had almost no chance of surviving the Nazi horrors so the survival of Anna van Dam, a 17-year old deaf Dutch-Belgian girl in Auschwitz is a unique story. This is the first film documenting the dramatic story of this forgotten group.

For the hearing, Auschwitz is characterised as a place of horrific sounds; for the deaf, the terror was silent. Young deaf filmmaker Tom Linszen discovers what happened to deaf Jews during the war, and how some could survive the horrors of Nazi persecution, despite the seemingly insurmountable burden of their handicap.

Tom has worked with acclaimed filmmaker Willy Lindwer to tell the story of Anna, one of the very few deaf people who survived the Nazi death camp Auschwitz.
