Snake Island
1 x 52' HD
In this Ben Cropp production we are taken to Niue; a beautiful, uplifted atoll situated in the Central Pacific, 4000km north of Australia. Honeycombed with limestone caves, Niue is a speck of land in a vast ocean of sea snakes and humpback whales.
We join Cropp as he explores both the islands colourful wildlife, and the people that inhibit it. The island lies in the migratory path of the great Humpback whale, and it is here they come to calve and mate. We are taken on many dives in which the team capture wonderful underwater footage of these gentle giants.
Join the team as they go in search of Snake Gully, the location where sea snakes, indigenous only to the island, come ashore to lay their eggs. It is estimated that around 90% of the hatchlings will be eaten in there first year. Their first test is to make it past the sharks that circle
the island.
Among the splendid array of scenery and wildlife captured during the filming the team make one last extraordinary discovery when they return to their diving spot to find a baby whale has been born.
