Crocodile Island

1 x 52' HD

Crab Island, off the tip of Northern Australia, is the world's most important breeding ground for the distinctive flatback turtle. But its tranquil beauty belies a hidden danger; for here the crocodile is king. In this film, Australian marine expert, Ben Cropp goes in search of these deadly creatures, and captures unique footage of the crocs feeding on turtles as they wait in silence for their dinner to scramble past.

Using the latest in infra-red technology he captures this aggressive behaviour in never before seen detail. Cropp also investigates a mixture of other species located around the island; using pole cameras he goes underwater with dangerous predators such as Tiger sharks and Bull rays, and swims amongst the coral to film scenes of beautiful serenity.

The documentary also includes dramatic footage of a tiger shark attempting to get back to water after chasing a tern chick onto the shore, and fascinating scenes of Dean Cropp getting up close and personal with a huge Grouper. Ben also follows the islands indigenous hunters as they capture and cook mud crab, whilst observing how the creatures behave in their natural habitat.
