Scrimpers
6 x 26'
Six encounters with resourceful Britain. Actor Ray Brooks and writer/presenter Rick Ball join forces to discover exactly how and why there's such satisfaction in being a scrimper in Britain. They meet men and women, young and old - people who for many different motives, are dedicated to the old adages "waste not, want not", "that will come in handy", "look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves".
Along the way we learn many things - how to prolong the life of a toilet roll, how not to use a car-boot sale, how to save on your funeral, how to upgrade your office using cardboard and string.
The programmes are full of humour and real admiration for individual's ingenuity. The stars are the scrimpers themselves - practical, economising men and women who have rejected the 'throwaway society', perhaps because it's fun or perhaps because right now they have little alternative.
